Let’s-a-Look Back: On December 21, 2023, Thomasians, once again, flocked to the UST field to witness the grand Paskuhan Concert – the much-anticipated culmination of the month-long Christmas festivities at the University.
With the theme, "Witnessing the Joy of Christmas," Paskuhan 2023 features Super Mario-themed lights and decorations. The "Paskuhan" tradition began in 1991, marking the beginning of the University's Christmas break.
Despite the ongoing jeepney strike and unpredictable weather patterns, around 36,000 Thomasians wrapped the year with their peers and classmates. The spirited celebration not only marked a memorable conclusion to the semester but also served as a homecoming for the returning alumni.
The Paskuhan concert featured an electrifying performance by the local band Cup of Joe while Lily captivated the audience with a fresh rendition of the timeless classic, "Magbalik."
Meanwhile, returning favorites Adie and Lola Amour took to the stage once more, serenading the crowd with their hit songs. Lola Amour performed "Raining in Manila," while Adie's heartfelt rendition of "Mahika" included a surprise appearance by singer, Janine Berdin.
In addition to the guest performers, Paskuhan proudly showcased the remarkable talents of Thomasian bands like Kler, Benchfly, Oh Stella, and Mimosa.
Moreover, performances from Salinggawi Dance Troupe, UST Yellow Jackets, UST Prime, Sinag Ballroom Dance Company, BA Dauncen, 1Shade, Archetypes, Intenzy, Pharmacy Dance Troupe, and College of Science Dance Troupe further amplified the festive spirit with their diverse displays of talent.
The night ends with a set of performances by the girl group BINI, followed by a Super-Mario-themed pyromusical display that took on an emotional turn as it featured iconic antiwar songs such as John Lennon's "Imagine," Lennon and Plastic Ono Band's "Give Peace a Chance" and Michael Jackson's "Heal the World." This powerful tribute served as a poignant reminder of the world's ongoing struggles, delivering a message of unity and hope in the face of adversity.
This year's Paskuhan went beyond mere gathering for celebration; it stood as a testament to UST's enduring spirit and the strong bond within its community. It vividly portrayed UST's steadfast dedication to fostering unity and pride among its people.
