On March 30, 2023, the UST Asian Studies Society (ASSOC) held its annual event, One With ASEAN 2023: ASEAN’s Glory, Reborn!, virtually via Zoom. The event began with the opening remarks of the project heads, Ms. Christina Jelena Hernandez and Mx. Azrah Louise Halili, stating its aim to “restore ASEAN’s glory” and to “promote awareness and appreciation towards ASEAN.”
The event commenced with ASSOC’s presentation on the Republic of Indonesia, followed by the first batch of presenters.
ASSOC held the first Society Games: Guess the Southeast Asian Flag through Kahoot, which tested the participants’ knowledge about the flags of current ASEAN member states and proceeded with the second part of the program, wherein the next batch of presenters continued and began with 1ASN2’s presentation on Malaysia.
The cultural presentations ended with another Society Games: TIMOR Makes The Dream Work, which focused on facts about the newly admitted ASEAN member, Timor-Leste. Intermission from three notable guilds from Asian Studies, namely AScoustics, Fusasia, and Ars Oratoria, also showcased their talents through song, dance, and poetry.
Before the event ended, ASSOC gave awards to the blocks that stood out in representing their ASEAN countries. The Socialist Republic of Vietnam, represented by 4ASN1, got the spot for the third runner-up with their Dora-themed exploration of the country’s culture. 4ASN2 was named second runner-up as they brought us into the world of Bondee to travel and connect with the vibrant nation of the Philippines.
