ASSOC launches ASN?: Ano Say Niyo? to spread awareness through active student participation

The UST Asian Studies Society (ASSOC) recently launched a project entitled ‘ASN?: Ano Say Niyo?’. In a written interview of the Asian Studies Gazette (ASG) with Anna Viktoria Tabayag, a Board Committee Member under the Quality-Assurance Division of ASSOC's Office of the President, she shares that it is a platform for the student body to share insights or personal takes regarding  featured issues or topics across Asia.

ASN? plans to take intellectual discussions beyond the boundaries of the classroom, which will stimulate students’ minds to partake in discourses that will ignite a passion for learning and spark curiosity within them.

Tabyag explains that through reading the publication materials and write-ups curated by their team, students can express their opinions or sentiments using the provided Google Forms. Upon submitting their responses, ASSOC will then share these on their official social media platforms.

Aside from spreading awareness and information, ASN? can inspire active participation among the members of society. Implementing the project will allow them to share their knowledge and insights with others, creating a safe and supportive space for learning.

The topics that the project plans to feature will cover various subject matters in the regions of Asia. In their first and second issues that they posted, they covered topics from West Asia, the Mahsi Amini protests in Iran, and Southeast Asia, the Rohingya Humanitarian Crisis. For upcoming posts, they are considering broadening the scope by researching topics and events from the past.

When featuring issues, they consider the time of a prompt of an event or issue. Moreover, they also plan to continue their coverage and focus on researching issues from the remaining regions of Asia.

Tabayag adds that through the launching of ASN? students can be aware and be up-to-date with the current events in Asia. Likewise, additional knowledge for the students can benefit their courses or future endeavors. Sharing their insights about the features also enables the students to hone their critical thinking skills, helping them to make informed statements about societal issues.

As an informative project, it signifies the importance of the student’s role in amplifying awareness. Their engagement and responses toward the highlighted issues lead to all-inclusive perspectives, encouraging them to take an active role in society.

With ASSOC’s outlook on providing projects that inform and encourage  active student participation, the launch of ASN? certainly fulfills that vision, and the engagement from the members and students of Asian Studies is considered the core of the project.
