MANILA — Charles Pedro, the newly elected Asian Studies Society (ASSOC) Auditor had a one-on-one virtual interview on November 11, 2022 via Zoom with Asian Studies Gazette (ASG) and shared his thoughts, agendas, and plans for his term.
Pedro stated that he is a "democratic person" and his leadership style revolves around listening to the opinions of others. He shares that he will apply the same mechanism in serving the interest of the student body.
I expect that I will use the same style as an Auditor. Since I have many colleagues in the Executive Board and Board Committees, I can make sure that I perform dutifully by asking for assistance when needed and feedback when I accomplish my duties. This way, we can make sure that everything is accounted for, twice or maybe even thrice checked."
With that, he aims to prioritize ensuring transparency in the financial transactions of ASSC.
[To] accomplish a fully-itemized database or list of ASSOC's financial activities so that the student body can look at what happens to the ASSOC funds year-round.
The word excited is Pedro's way of describing what he felt as he assumed the Auditory post:
I am excited by the fact that I was given the opportunity to support the Executive Board of ASSOC to the best of my abilities. I am also looking forward to help lighten the load off my colleague's shoulders by ensuring that I can keep up with them and do my job properly as the newly instated auditor.
...he elaborated.
Apart from Pedro's firsthand experiences in being part of the ASSOC Executive Board, he also shared three key motivation points which he believes would help him in fulfilling his duties:
- Uphold the trust of the student body,
- Gain Experience, and
- Showcase the Thomasian Core Values.
As you might have noticed, before taking on responsibilities, I will first think if I can handle everything in my plate along with the responsibility I am about to take. If I deem that I can't handle it, I won't take it. If I deem that I can handle it, then I will do my best to carefully handle it.
...he further explained.
Pedro left an inspiring message to his fellow students stating that:
We all tackle challenges in our academics and extracurriculars at different paces. I say, take your time, do your best; life is only what you make it; you're going to be okay.
