The UST Asian Studies Society (ASSOC) welcomed students for AY: 2022-2023 last September 9 with the theme “IlluminASia” which aims to highlight the different wonders and benefits of being an Asian Studies student.

The program started with the opening remarks of the Vice President for Internal Affairs, Mary Carl P. Buasen,

"We are the generation that even with the circumstances we are in right now, [we] keep on finding ways to get back on track while illuminating the true spirit of Asian Studies,"

 ...Buasen stated.

The event's highlight is the presence of its guest speaker, Jhoanna Fe Fulgencio, Magna Cum Laude alumni of UST Asian Studies Batch 2022, and former UST MUN 2020 Secretary General. Fulgencio emphasized that her university years passed by so quickly,

“Sobrang bilis nang four years (four years seems too fast)”

and encouraged the students to maximize their stay in Asian Studies. Fulgencio also shared her experience in joining various organizations and guilds within and outside her program's realms. Moreover, she imparted three  tips of encouragement: aim your best, create a balance, and fully enjoy the whole process of your college journey.

The UST ASSOC President, Johannes De Guia, introduced the Executive Board for AY: 2022-2023 followed by the presentation of the legal grounds for the amendments of the UST ASSOC Articles of Association by the UST ASSOC Board of Representatives Speaker, Ms. Khate Nicole Jacoba. The UST ASSOC Elections Committee Chairperson, Julia Vanessa Orillaza and Vice Chairperson, Beatrice Sofia Pingen thereafter presented the results prior to the amendments presented by Jacoba.

Vice President Buasen prepared games to entertain the students and presented the guilds and organizations of Asian Studies. The organizations are UST Model ASEAN Meeting (UST MAM) and UST Model United Nations (UST MUN), headed by its respective Secretary Generals, Hannah Tejoso of 4ASN2 and Patricia Mae Rebong of 4ASN2.

The UST ASSOC  guilds are Ars Oratoria, AScoustics, AS Gazette, AS Dragons, AS Vision, AS Debate Chamber, and Furasia. A 40-minute breakout room was opened for the guild booth fair to encourage students in scouting potential guilds they want to join.

The General Assembly culminated with the closing remarks of the UST ASSOC President De Guia,

“I hope you come to understand that your university life is not just confined within the four walls of your virtual classrooms. There are many opportunities even within ASSOC where you can learn new things, express yourself through other mediums and meet new people...”

...he said. UST ASSOC hopes to have touched both the new and existing dragons in exploring and maximizing their collegiate years in Asian Studies through Illuminasia.
